Calling Card of Charles B. Tebbs, Leesburg Virginia – Attorney at Law & LtCol. of the 8th Virginia Infantry. This business card was used by Tebbs in the post war era as an attorney at law in Leesburg, Va. A finely printed card with decorative border done by “Turner, Pr (printer), Alex.” Measures 2 x 3 3/8 inches, and in fine condition. Charles Binus Tebbs, Sr. (1826- 1867).  In his professional life, Tebbs was a noted attorney in Loudoun Co., Virginia, before and after the Civil War until his death in 1867. Civil War data does not state his enlistment date, but another source notes he led troops of the 8th Virginia at the Battle of Ball’s Bluff in 1861. He was dropped from the rolls on April 15, 1862, “due to failing health.” He died on September 26, 1867, in Charlottesville, Virginia, from tuberculosis contracted during his military service.” He is buried at the Union Cemetery, Leesburg. “8th Infantry Regiment was organized at Leesburg, Virginia, in May, 1861. Its members were recruited in the counties of Loudoun, Prince William, and Fairfax. The unit was also called “Old Bloody Eighth” and from time to time “The Berkeley Regiment”. Only 1 surgeon and 11 privates surrendered on April 9, 1865. The field officers were Colonels Norborne Berkeley and Eppa Hunton, Lieutenant Colonels Edmund Berkeley and Charles B. Tebbs, and Majors William N. Berkeley and James Thrift.” (ref. FamilySearch)
